Non-Worsted Billiard Cloth
Championship Billiard Fabrics
(Most common for home use.)
Make
Most typically found in weights from 19 to 21 oz. and is a blended cloth made from wool and nylon.
Durability
On a scale of 1 to 10. We give it a 10 regardless of the weight used.
Playablility
Non-worsted cloths have a raised nap. Giving it a "fuzzy" feeling. This fuzz reacts with the ball making it roll slower and does "slightly" effect the track of the ball when rolling. We rank this type of cloth as being an 8 out of 10.
Cleaning
Darker colors show more dust, hair, etc. Use a pool table brush when cleaning. The fuzz can trap debris making it harder to pick up. NEVER USE A VACCUM!

From a mechanics point of view, there are many types of billiard cloths out there that are of this type. They do not offer the same level of long term durability or re-use when moving a pool table. When we install cloth, in most cases, it has to be stapled down and in all cases it has to be cut to fit the pocket tightly. When we move a pool table these staples have to be removed. Everytime this is done, cloths of a lesser durability begin to look rough in the pockets and in some cases cannot be reinstalled correctly. As a pool table owner, and I wanted this type of cloth, I would demand Championship Billiard Fabrics be used and look for it on the package! Especially when the price is the same!!

Worsted Billiard Cloth
Iwan Simonis
(Most common for tournament use.)
Make
Worsted cloths are not measured by weight in the billiard industry. Made from 100% wool.
Durability
On a scale of 1 to 10. We give it a 10 with an exception. While worsted cloths are more durable, they are very flat and not fuzzy. If this cloth becomes damaged it shows.
Playablility
Simonis worsted cloths are used in professional tournaments around the world. Widely respected by the most dedicated pool players in the world. Fast resistance free roll with no effect on the track of the ball. We rank this cloth as being a 10 out 10.
Cleaning
Darker colors show more dust, hair, etc. Use a pool table brush when cleaning. Smooth surface allows easy removal of debris. NEVER USE A VACCUM!

From a mechanics point of view, there are many types of billiard cloths out there that are of this type. These are usually offered at a lesser price, than Simonis, for upgraded felt. While they are smooth like Simonis, they are not woven as tightly and do not play the same nor do they offer the same durability. We can get them and do not mind using them. From my point of view, when you are looking for the best, get the best. The price maybe $50 higher depending on who you are talking to. If the price is the same, GO FOR SIMONIS!
