The felt on your pool table affects everything — ball speed, roll accuracy, and how your shots respond off the cushions. Old, worn, or improperly installed cloth is one of the most common reasons a pool table stops playing well. Fresh, professionally installed felt makes a table feel like new.

At Metro Billiards Service, refelting is one of our most requested services. We carry multiple cloth options at different price points, and we take the time to stretch and staple every inch correctly — no shortcuts, no bubbles, no lifting edges.

Cloth Options

We offer several felt options to fit different budgets and playing preferences. Our standard service uses quality billiard cloth that performs well for recreational play. For serious players, we also offer worsted (wool-blend) cloth options that provide a faster, more consistent roll. Does My Table Need to Be Moved to Be Refelted?

No. Refelting can be done in place, provided the table is fully assembled and accessible. The table must be set up and playable before we begin — we cannot refelt a disassembled table or one that's been partially taken apart.

How Often Should Felt Be Replaced?

This depends on use and age. Felt used for regular recreational play typically lasts 3–5 years before showing noticeable wear. Felt older than 7–10 years becomes brittle regardless of use and may tear during installation if reused. If you're planning a move, a renovation, or simply notice slower ball speed and uneven roll, it's likely time for new felt.

What's Included

Every refelting service includes removal of old cloth, inspection of the slate surface, professional installation of new cloth on the bed and all three rail sections, and final leveling verification. We also clean the slate surface before installation to ensure a smooth base for the new cloth.

Can Felt Be Reused?

Yes — up to 3 times, with conditions. The felt must be in good structural condition (no tears or thinning), and it should be no more than 7–10 years old. We'll give you an honest assessment when we inspect your table. If reuse is a reasonable option, we'll tell you. If it's a risk, we'll tell you that too.
